more than a wedding day

I think I fell in love with photographing weddings long before I realized why. At first, I thought it was the beauty of them. The flowers, the dress, the way everything comes together, the little details someone spent months dreaming about. But I think what really keeps me coming back is what happens underneath all of it.

A promise. Two people standing in front of the people they love and saying, I choose you. I will keep choosing you. There is something incredibly beautiful about being allowed to witness that.

Because a wedding is so much more than a single day. It is the beginning of the rest of their lives together. It is a covenant. A promise to love, to stay, to keep choosing each other through every season that comes after the flowers are gone and the dress is packed away. And I think that is what makes it so beautiful to me.

Marriage is also a picture of something much bigger. Christ calls Himself the Bridegroom, and His Church is His bride. There is something so beautiful about seeing a wedding and being reminded of that love, that covenant, that promise. Paul writes in Ephesians 5:32, “This is a profound mystery, but I am talking about Christ and the church.”

The way a bride looks toward her groom. The way two people choose one another. The joy of being fully known and fully loved. It all points to something greater.

So when I photograph a wedding, I’m not just photographing a beautiful day. I’m documenting the moment a promise becomes visible. The beginning of a story that will continue long after the last photograph is taken.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of being reminded that love is worth choosing. That promises are worth keeping. That some moments are worth remembering for the rest of our lives. And that maybe the greatest privilege of being a photographer isn't simply getting to make beautiful pictures. It's getting to witness something beautiful enough to last beyond the picture.
